Detective Ebenezer Gryce tells the story of the case with which he began his career in 1840. Several wealthy men were drowned and washed ashore in New York City, and the first clue leads to a dubious money lender.
Anna Katharine Green (1864 - 1935)
She was an American poet and novelist. She was one of the first writers of detective fiction in America and distinguished herself by writing well plotted, legally accurate stories. Green has been called "the mother of the detective novel." Green is credited with shaping detective fiction into its classic form, and developing the series detective.
